How Did We Do?

Sloan Samuel Strohl was born May 9, 1974 in Butte, Montana. He passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Overlake Hospital, in Bellevue, Washington at age 43. Sloan was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

A resident of Issaquah, Washington, Sloan was renowned for his love of Keely, Rooney, Keane, his parents, family, friends, Manchester United, basketball, and coaching. He moved through the world always commenting with the best one-liners, genuine humor, kindness, humility, caring and respect. In return, he was beloved by all who knew him and all are devastated by his sudden passing.

Sloan spent the first six years of his life in Butte, Montana, before moving to Washington. During his school years, he was an eager and talented athlete, who loved playing and watching any sport. He made many life-long friends during these years. After high school, Sloan discovered a love of coaching. He spent the rest of his life coaching athletes of all ages and levels, from fourth grade kids to professional athletes. As a coach, he was dedicated teaching the game, but more importantly to changing lives for the better.

Sloan graduated from Bothell High School in 1992. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management. Most recently, he worked at Juanita High School in Kirkland, Washington. Sloan knew how to talk with teenagers, how to show them respect while also demanding respect. Through this work, he made a huge difference in many lives.

Sloan met his future wife, Keely, in 2000 and they married on April 2, 2005. As Keely's husband, Sloan's love was unconditional and all-encompassing. They welcomed their first child, Rooney Kate, in 2008. Their second daughter, Keane Mattilyn, was born in 2009. Sloan loved his precious daughters to the depths of his soul and would have gone to the ends of the earth for them. He made them giggle and shout, encouraged them to always do their best, and taught them to be kind, and to never give up. He cherished his family. They were the center of his universe, and he was the center of theirs.

Sloan will be remembered forever by Keely, his wife and best friend, and his precious girls Rooney and Keane, by his parents George and Barbara Strohl of Butte, Montana, sister-in-law Katie Barrett, favorite niece Bella Kemp, brother-in-law Brett Barrett, mother-in-law Marge Barrett and numerous extended family and dear friends.

Sloan was a dedicated Manchester United fan, and inspired many to join him. He was passionate about the beautiful game, and enjoyed drinking a Guinness while shouting at the refs. We are all going to miss his sharp analysis, unapologetic opinions and supreme commitment to his team. As Sloan's wife, Keely, said recently, "There is something calming about knowing that Sloan is watching the Manchester United game with George Best!"

"Going up to the spirit in the sky,
That's where I am gonna go when I die.
When I die and they lay me to rest,
I'm gonna go on the piss with Georgie Best!"

CandleDear Keely, Rooney and Keane,
Words cannot express how our hearts ache for you and all of Sloan's family. Sloan was such a fun-loving and caring friend and coach and we will miss him dearly. His years of dedication to Cam, and others will never be forgotten. His lessons and example of love, passion, and humor will live on in all the people that he touched.
You were all blessed to have experienced the great love and family that you created together, although it was much too short a time together. We will pray sincerely that your broken hearts and pain will ease in time, with the help of all who loved you and Sloan. Sloan will forever be in our hearts through our funny, wonderful memories.
With great love and sympathy for your loss, Kathy & Onie Warren
