He attended St. Bernard's Grade School and graduated from Carroll High School in 1948. Bob furthered his education at St. Benedict's School in Atchison, Kansas. He returned home to help his family with the farm operation. Bob and Mary (Baumhover) were married on July 11, 1953, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. Later that year, Bob was drafted with the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1955.
