FORT WORTH - Lorrie Jo Harper was born on Feb. 19, 1951, in Ada, Okla., and died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017. She has lived in the Fort Worth area since 1993. A graduate of Monterey High School and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, she was a life-long advocate for education. She retired in 2011 from the Texas School Coalition where she served as an administrative assistant to the Executive Director. Previously, she had served as an administrative assistant to the Director of Curriculum at Northwest Independent School District.
Lorrie was an avid sportswoman and a fan of many sports, especially football. She was a committed Texas Tech Red Raider. She enthusiastically participated in hiking, fly-fishing, paddle-boarding, and kayaking. Along with her husband, Lloyd, she spent many hours enjoying the mountains and streams of Colorado, the ocean of Kauai, and the rivers of Idaho.

Lorrie had a ready and welcoming smile and a warm and loving heart that was open to everyone she met. A lover of life, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her generous spirit and great kindness endeared her to all who crossed her path.
Lorrie was preceded in death by her father, Burl Bartlett.
Survivors: Loving husband of 28 years, Lloyd; mother, Maggie Bartlett of Enid, Okla.; son, John Vincent Farris and wife, Gaila; Gaila's daughter, Ashley; two grandsons, Bryce and Braydyn Farris, of Azle, Texas; stepson, Jeff Harper, of New York; two sisters and their husbands, Ann and Larry Tubbs of Denton, Texas and Janie and Richard Rivers of Enid, Okla., two special young women who are like daughters, Amy Stephenson Coen and husband, Jeff, of Lewisbury, Pa. and Emily Spruill of Atlanta, Ga.; Lorrie was also an aunt and great-aunt to Paul Tubbs and wife, Lindsey, and children Taylor and Jake of Lubbock, Texas; Briley Rivers and wife, Lisa, and children, Cody and Luke of Ottawa, Kan.; and Emily Rivers Cooper and husband, Justin, and children, Samuel, Elijah, and Solomon of Enid, Okla.
As a woman whose motto was "Choose Joy," Lorrie's life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Azle Christian Church, 117 Church St., Azle, Texas 76020.
