Harry Eugene "Gene" Arthur, 91, of Waterloo, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home on Monday, November 6, 2017 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born on November 12, 1925 in Waterloo; the son of Raymond and Wilhelmina Darian Arthur. Gene graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1943. He served in the United States Navy as a medical corpsman with the United States Marines Corp during World War II, and was in the Pacific Theatre until his honorable discharge in 1946. Gene married Patricia Conners on July 28, 1952 in Waterloo. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 35 years; he retired in 1984. Survivors include his wife; son, Joseph Arthur, daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" (Ken) Webbeking, all of Waterloo; two brothers: Dr. James (Shirley) Arthur and Richard Arthur; four grandchildren: Anne (Matt Northrop) Webbeking, Max (Andrea) Webbeking, Allison Arthur, and Andrew Arthur; and a great-granddaughter, Madeline Webbeking. Gene is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marion Jessen; and a brother, Ralph Arthur.
