Madison
Sandra Kay Steward, age 74, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 following a courageous five year battle with colon cancer. She was born March 10, 1943 in Madison, the daughter of Arnold B. and Margaret Mary (King) Brager. She was a 1961 graduate of East High School.
Sandy and Gerry were married in May of 1966. They have two children, Laura and Chuck. Sandy had the opportunity to be a stay at home mom while the children were young. Sandy had a hard time saying no when it came to volunteering. She was a den mother, Brownie mom, room mother, president of Northside youth baseball, and helped out whenever asked.
Sandy's first battle with cancer occurred in the early 1990's, when she beat breast cancer. The strength and determination she showed at that time was a foreshadowing of all the strength she would need in the future.
Most recently, she devoted her time to the Eagle's Club, where she met many new friends. She was very proud of the time she spent as President of the women's auxiliary.
Sandy loved to take family vacations. She and her family travelled to many places in the U...[more]
he US. Some of her favorites were Las Vegas, Branson, Arizona and California.
Her crowning achievement was becoming a grandmother. She spent the rest of her life spoiling her grandson.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Gerry; daughter, Laura Steward; son, Chuck (Amy) Steward; grandson, Colin Steward; brother, Jack Brager, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Mary Brager.
The family extends their gratitude to U.W. Carbone Cancer Center for their care.
