to Physics and Higher Mathematics, and eventually graduated from the University of Oklahoma City with a double Master's Degree in Physics and Higher Mathematics, continued to pursue his doctorate in the same.
John was employed by the Federal Government for the duration of his career, working for many government departments including: The Department of Indian Affairs, the Federal Aviation Authority, and Bureau of Standards (NIST).
During John's life he had many accomplishments including writing radio operations manuals for the Navy; he wrote the original software to facilitate communication between the atomic clock and residential clocks, leading to today's use in electronic devices used daily (like cellphones, tablets, and computers), he wrote interval timing manuals for satellites used by NASA; so they would not collide. If you were to ask John about his creative process, he would tell you that he wrote everything out in his head before it ever made it to paper.
John married Martha F Stanley (Blenkle), December 22, 2000 in Glenwood Springs, CO; they were married almost 17 years after being best friends and confidantes for 16 years prior to their marriage.
John volunteered with Energy Sweeps and was a Colorado Trail crew leader for many years. He was one of the first licensed HAM Radio operators in the US; receiving his certification at the age of 10. He was an avid environmentalist and animal activist for wild and domestic animals of all species. He had backpacked the complete Appalachian Trail, backpacked the majority of the Continental Divide Trail as well as the Colorado Trail, and he was very proud of climbing every Fourteener in Colorado. John was a computer fanatic; using his skills to purchase and refurbish computers for senior citizens learning the basics of computers and being able to give them the gift of an affordable starter computer. John loved music of all kinds running the gamut from classical music to barbershop quartets. John also loved going to storytelling events.
John spent countless hours, exhausting every resource to trace his family genealogy and was meticulous in his documentation. Everyone of John's family members, friends and co-workers would tell you that his primary focus was family. He would do anything for anyone, always putting others before his own needs.
John was a friend to all creatures great and small.
John is survived by his wife, Martha, stepchildren, Kimberley Derby-Blosser and her husband Brian, Bradley Derby, Amanda Cronin and her husband Bill, Wendy Bartelson and her husband Jerry, his grandchildren, Mikhail (Whitney), John Alexander, Tyler, Lucia and JJ and great-grandchildren, Gavin and June Rae, his 2 sisters, Florence Decker (Jack), Pearl Childress, 2 nephews and 2 nieces and other extended family.
A memorial potluck will be held on November 18, 2017, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at Pine Brook Hills Community Center, 1905 Linden Drive, Boulder, CO. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: Humane Society of Boulder Valley, 2323 55th Street, Boulder, CO 80301, in the name of John T Stanley.
