He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church; Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342; and Knights of Columbus Council #8227 in Jesup. Jim is survived by five sons, Steven (Connie) Vogel of Jesup, Joseph (Kris) Vogel of Waterloo, Pat Vogel of Waterloo, Tim (Cindy) Vogel of Gilbertville, IA, Marty (Rhonda) Vogel of Blairstown, IA; six daughters, Sherri Schmitt of Waterloo, Margaret "Peggy" (David) Gilchrist of Urbandale, IA, Beth Augustine of Waterloo, Ann (Lowell) Fenner of Iowa City, IA, Nancy (Neil) Steege of Newhall, IA, Barb (Harry) Murtha of Victor, IA; also, 29 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Mary) Vogel of Independence; one sister, Eileen Splinter of Camarillo, CA; a sister in law, Ann Vogel of Oelwein and a brother in law, Myron Oswald of Harpers Ferry, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elaine on July 13, 2012; four great grandchildren, one son in law, Steven Schmitt and one brother, John Vogel.
