...[more]The 9th of 11 sons, Bob was born July 1, 1935 in Harpers Ferry to James and Rose McCormick Corrigan. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1953. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 before moving to Cedar Rapids where he met and married his wife of 58 years, Margaret "Peg" O'Neill on April 11th, 1959. He worked as a mechanic at Wilson & Co/Farmstead Foods for 32 years and Liftruck Service for 10 years before retiring in 1997. He was a member of the American Legion Harpers Ferry Post 722, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Cedar Rapids Post 788, and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Bob loved being outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and mushroom hunter, and shared his passion for these activities with his children, sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, and nieces and nephews. He spent many hours walking trails in the early mornings with friends, working in his gardens growing vegetables, and helping Dave Stallman make gallons of their "famous" wine. He enjoyed singing and playing music on his steel guitar with his brothers and son-in-law, and talking about his Irish heritage. Most of all, he loved spending his time with family. Bob cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed telling them stories, many of them around the campfire in Yellow River State Forest.
Bob was a beloved coach to his sons and many young men in Cedar Hills little leagues and in Men's 16" slow-pitch softball. He coached many championship teams and was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame in 1992, and served as a Past-President. Bob was a devout Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Special thanks and gratitude for all of the staff at MeadowView who cared for Bob over the last two years.
Memorials may be directed to the family and will used to support Bob's favorite nature conservation programs.
