Merylin A. Skiba, 87, of New Britain, CT and a former Red Hook, NY resident, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Jerome Home in New Britain, CT.
Born on September 5, 1930, in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Emily (Quinn) Schlitt. Merylin grew up in Darien CT and as a child loved going to the beach and horseback riding. She earned her nursing degree at Cornell University- School of Nursing in NY, NY. Merylin married Bernard L. "Skip" Skiba on October 1, 1952 in Noroton, CT. and Skip predeceased her on Oct 31, 1994.
Former residents of New Bedford, MA, Merylin and Skip moved their family to Red Hook, NY in 1960. Merylin worked as a Nurse at Bard College in Annandale, NY from 1968-1994 and served as Bard College's- Director of Health Services from 1981-1994.
Always active, Merylin was a volunteer at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck and a member of the NDH Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, at the Association of...[more]

Merylin was a member of the Clermont Seniors, the Open Door Club in Rhinebeck, the Bard Lifetime Learning and the Marist College Center for Lifetime Studies. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Town of Red Hook Rec Park, and when her children were younger was a Brownie leader and consultant. In her retirement years, Merylin was able to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, the Canadian Rockies and the western United States.

She is survived by her loving children, Barbara A. Skiba of Cheshire, CT, William M. Skiba & his wife Cheryl of Ionia, NY, and Suzanne Domanico of Edgewood, MD; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Skiba of Rochester, NY, Mitchell Skiba of Mountain View, CA, and Jason Domanico of Springfield, VA; along with extended family, colleagues and friends.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 3 - 6 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook, NY. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
