lly was a constant correspondent, fan of Native (American) culture and navigator for extensive family road trips. Cross- country drives led to relatives as destinations, if not as traveling companions. A truly courageous venture was calling square dancers for tweens.
As an empty nester, Polly returned to work at D.C. General Hospital in Washington. She and George indulged themselves and other in five years of retirement before George passed away in 1985.
Polly travelled, including across Australia, then relocated nearer to her New England roots in CT. She married William M. Knight in 1988. They relocated to the West as two grandchildren were born. Bill passed away in 2001.
Polly is survived by her daughter Amy Valentine and husband Steve Zelenak of Fort Collins; grandson Andy Zelenak and wife Andrea Garza of Austin, TX and granddaughter Georgianna Zelenak of Falmouth, MA. And her daughter Cynthia Birdsall Valentine of Ashevilee, NC and a gaggle of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be at Allnutt Drake Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017. Family and friends may visit www.allnutt.com to share memories or leave a message of condolence for the family.
