Berniece M. Quint, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha after a long illness. Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Berniece is survived by her daughter Martha Quint (Kerry Lawrence) of Cedar Rapids; grandson Brian (Laura) Lawrence; great-granddaughter Allison; brother Raymond Reth; sister-in-law Joanne Quint; and several nieces and nephews.
Berniece was preceded in death by her husband Leo Quint; parents Charles and Martha Reth; stepmother Clara Reth; brother Harlan Reth; and sister Ruth Wright.
Berniece was born on August 15, 1925, daughter of Charles F. and Martha Meiners Reth in Delhi. She graduated from Delhi High School in 1942 and from Dubuque Business School. She worked in a war plant until her sweetheart Leo returned from service. Berniece married Leo on November 20, 1945. She attended Dubuque Beauty Academy and owned her shop in Delhi. in 1970 she taught at Young's Beauty Academy and later worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services in Cedar Rapids until her retirement. She then worked at Hancock Fabrics until her second retirement at age 85.
Berniece was member of St. Jude's for over 40 years. She sang in the church choir and with Sweet Adelines. She belonged to the Cedar Valley Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America. Berniece loved singing, quilting and embroidery, and was an accomplished needle worker who earned blue ribbons at the state fair.
Berniece will be missed by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Martha who was also her best friend and caregiver in later years.
Instead of flowers memorial may be directed to family and will be used to support Berniece's favorite organizations.
