Ernest "Gene" Eugene Conger, age 80, of Exline, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by loving family members.
Gene was born on July 4, 1937 in Exline, Iowa, the son of Troy and Pansy (Seals) Conger. He graduated Cincinnati High School with the class of 1954. In July of 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country until July of 1963, when he was honorably discharged. On June 17, 1971, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ehlers in Moulton, Iowa. From this union, four children were born, Naomi, Daniel, Samuel, and Sarah.
Gene worked in the Quad Cities for several years in Construction. He relocated to Centerville, and continued to work in the Construction field. He was involved in building numerous buildings around Centerville, including Young Radiator. Once Young Radiator's construction was complete, he accepted a position as the Quality Control Manager. He excelled at this position for 25 years, until he retired in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Conger of Exline; his children, Naomi (Marc) Jones of Albia, Danny Conger of Exline, Sam Conger of Allerton, and Sarah (Mike) Sconzo of Centerville; a sister, Janice (Don) Breese of Centerville; grandchildren, Emily Hawk, Troy Cassady, Ethan Hawk, Riley Hawk, Nicholas Conger, Carlie Conger, Everly Conger, Ashley Sconzo, ShonMikel Sconzo, Zoie Sconzo, Oscar Sconzo, and Gabe Sconzo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Pansy Conger; and his brothers, Floyd Conger, Ron Conger, and John Conger.
Per Gene's wishes, cremation has been accorded. Graveside Services will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Exline Cemetery, Exline, Iowa with Pastor Howard Luscan officiating. Memorials have been established to HCI Hospice Care Services, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544. There will be a Fellowship Gathering at the Exline Community Center in Exline, Iowa following the service. All friends and family are welcome to join.
