Lee Roy Nickerson passed peacefully into the presence of our Lord on Wednesday, November 15th, 2017, in his home in Broomfield, Colorado. He had celebrated his 83rd birthday three weeks before.
Lee Roy was born on October 20, 1934 in Grand Junction, Colorado and was the first born of four children of Cyrus Frank and Lola Mae Nickerson. He was preceded in death by his brother Harold Eugene Nickerson and is survived by his sister, Violet Ruth Covell and his brother, James Oliver Nickerson.
Lee Roy attended primary and secondary schools in Grand Junction, Erie, Fort Collins, Timnath, and Johnstown, Colorado. He learned the machinist's trade during his service in the Navy and later became a carpenter in the Denver area. His 30+ year career as a carpenter began with building homes in the Table Mesa neighborhood of Boulder. In his retirement he also had an enthusiasm for genealogy discovering resources that placed him as the 11th generation of William Nickerson, founder of Chatham, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, who arrived in Salem, Massachusetts in 1637.
Lee Ann Phillips met and married Lee Roy in 1962. They raised their daughters, Kendal Lee and Katherine Ann in Boulder and enjoyed the fellowship and participation in the many activities of First Presbyterian Church of Boulder.
Lee Roy enjoyed a steadfast Christian faith, always honoring his Lord at mealtime regardless of where he ate. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, a good story, and the preservation of a good joke. He was quick to lend a hand with practical problems. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Keenan, Shannon, Caleb, Rachael, and Eli. One of his favorite involvements was volunteering with the men of the Work Krew of First Presbyterian Church.
Lee Roy will be greatly missed by his wife, Lee Ann, his daughter Kendal and her husband and children, Michael, Shannon and Rachael Heinrich; his daughter Katherine and her children, Keenan, Caleb and Eli Huerta.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2nd, at 10:00 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church, 1820 15th St., Boulder, Colorado.
