Everett Ivan Doss, 97, of Montrose, Iowa, died Friday, June 27, 2003 at 12:25 A.M. at the Montrose Health Care Center in Montrose, Iowa. Everett Doss was born on May 18, 1906 in Irondale, Missouri. He was the son of William J. and Rebecca Taylor Doss. He married Jeanette Irene Cummings on April 7, 1926 in Esther, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 25, 1977. He was raised in Potosi, Missouri and went to the Hochstatter School and Church in Hopewell, Missouri. In 1921, at the age of fifteen, he went to "Kraus & Little Watch & Clock Training Center" in St. Louis, Missouri for four years to learn watch repair. In 1925, he did retail watch repair in Flat River, Missouri and later in Ithica, Michigan. He moved to Keokuk in 1937 and was employed at Harry. M. Carry Watch Repair. From 1943 until 1953 he operated his own watch repair shop. He moved to Florida in 1953 where he enjoyed traveling. He returned to the Keokuk area in 1993. He was an avid billiard and pool player and enjoyed bird hunting. Survivors include a son, William R. Montrose, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; forty great-great grandchildren; and three great-great-great grandchildren; one sister, Verna M. Skiles of Park Hills, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Iris Lee Mecey on November 22, 2001; a brother, Jesse Doss, in infancy; two sisters, Vada M. Doss, in infancy and Cressie Mae Eaton; a sister-in-law, Moreane (correct spelling) Asbridge; one infant grandson; two great-grandchildren, Lucinda and Derek; and one great-great granddaughter. Following a private family service, the body was cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date.
