Raymond "Jerry" Carel

Raymond G. "Jerry" Carel, 72, of Hamilton, Illinois and formerly of Keokuk, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 6:00 A.M. at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa. Jerry Carel was born on December 15, 1930 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the son of Raymond and Pansy Courtney Carel. He married Betty Post on September 21, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 2, 1984. He graduated from Keokuk Senior High in 1948. He lived in Keokuk until 1973 and was employed as a journeyman electrician with Local #48 at Blines Electric Company until 1973. He then moved to Newberg, Oregon where he was employed at the Trojan Nuclear Plant for nine years. He returned to Keokuk in 1984. He served as a Sergeant with the United States Marines during the Korean War from 1948-1952. From 1952-1962 he served as a Second Lieutenant with the National Guard. Survivors include three children, Robin Carel and his wife, Lisa, of Hamilton, Illinois, Lou O. Carel of Keokuk, Iowa, and Holly J. Waldo of Lafayette, Oregon; three sisters, Pearl Mullen of Ft. of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Paul Carel, and Frank Carel of Burlington, Iowa; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty. Graveside services were Monday, November 24, 2003 at the Keokuk National Cemetery with full military rites. Reverend William S. Mitchell officiated. Inurnment followed the service.
