George Morgan

George E. Morgan, Sr., 82, of Keokuk, died at 6:30 AM Saturday, December 28, 2003, at Keokuk Area Hospital. He was born January 21, 1921, in Keokuk, the son of Albert L. and Mary L. Le Master Morgan. He married Betty Hammel on December 25, 1945 in Keokuk. She survives. He served in the Army during World War II with the Co B, 56th Engineers. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and had been employed for forty-two yeas at Keokuk Electro-Metals later, which became Foote-Mineral. He also operated Morgan Tax Service. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk; Keokuk Lodge #12 AF&A M; American Legion Post #41 where he served for many years as a Trustee; VFW #3508. He took part many times with the Legion and V.F.W., which together provide military rites for veterans. He was also a member of Local #148 Operating engineers and he had served as a union official. He loved his family, motorcycle riding, photography, and being there for everyone else. He also was an avid Cub fan. Terry Morgan and his wife, Cheryl, of Keokuk, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lonnie R. Morgan; a daughter, Sherry Davis; six brothers, Albert L. "Bud" Morgan, Frank M. "Mart" Morgan, Robert L. "Shine" Morgan, James R. Morgan, Jack H. "Inky" Morgan, and Francis G. "Glenn" Morgan; and an infant sister, Dora. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. William Olmstead officiating. Burial with full military rites was at Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Keokuk Veterans Memorial Fund.
