Sharon Jean Mortimer, 67, of Keokuk, Iowa died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at 2:35 P.M. at her home. Sharon Mortimer was born on March 11, 1937 in Rock Island, Illinois. She was the daughter of William and Esther Cochenour Varner. She married Laroy E. "Jack" Mortimer on October 11, 1953 in Alexandria, Missouri. He survives. She had lived in Keokuk for sixty-four years. She had been employed in production at Shellor Globe for thirty-two and one-half years until her retirement in March of 1999. She enjoyed attending the Calvary Foursquare Church in Keokuk. She loved baby-sitting for her grandchildren and enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Laroy "Jack" Mortimer of Keokuk, Iowa; her children, Penny Sue Hale of Hamilton, Illinois, Larry E. Mortimer and his wife, Carol, of Montrose, Iowa, Sidney L. Mortimer and his wife, Christine, of Hamilton, Illinois, Martin D. Mortimer and his wife, Rosemaee, of Ainsworth, Iowa, Rick L. Mortimer and his wife, Debbie, of Donnellson, Iowa, John A. Texas; a stepdaughter, Rebekah A. Mortimer, of Ottumwa, Iowa; three sisters, Kathleen Miller of St. Joseph, Missouri, Elaine Brownlee and her husband, Edward, of Warsaw, Illinois, and Blanche Knudtson and her husband, Ron, of Anaheim, California; her father, William L. "Bill" Varner, of Keokuk, Iowa; twenty-three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and one brother, Larry T. Varner. Services were Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Reverend Dan Davis officiating. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery north of Keokuk. Visitation was be Friday, November 5, 2004 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk after 1:00 P.M. with the family meeting friends from 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice or Calvary Foursquare Church in Keokuk. DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk is in charge of the arrangements.
