Wanda Huntington, 97, of Afton, died on Tuesday, December 05, 2017, at the Afton Care Center. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Joel Sutton will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Visitation with family receiving friends will be 10 11 a.m. prior to the service, Saturday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Memorials are to the Dollars for Scholars in Afton. Wanda A. (Peak) Huntington, daughter of Esther Helen (Dahlberg) Peak and Lee Warren Peak, was born on June 16, 1920 in Adams County, Ia. She attended school in Union City #4 through the 8th grade then two years at Kent High School and graduated from Corning High School in 1935.
On December 31, 1939, Wanda was united in marriage to Charles Harry Huntington in rural Kent. Wanda was a homemaker and farmwife for many years in Kent. She and Charles worked for her dad for three years. In 1948, they moved southwest of Afton and farmed and in 1960 they moved southeast of Afton where they continued to farm. arden every year and greatly enjoyed canning and freezing her harvest from that garden. Wanda and Charles retired in 1979 when she moved in to Afton. She began working for Sheets Rexall Drug Store and really enjoyed meeting and working with the customers. Charles died in 1986.
Wanda was a member of the Arispe United Methodist Church, formerly a member of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron. She was also a 4-H Leader for years and a member of several local clubs and she also enjoyed playing cards.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Katherine (husband Edwin) Weis of Council Bluffs; two sons, Clifford (wife Patricia) Huntington of Omaha, Neb. and Douglas (wife Kammie) Huntington of Afton and 10 grandchildren, Brad (wife Amanda) Huntington, Brent Huntington and Wendy (husband Jay) Wilson all of Omaha, Jesse (friend Polly) Huntington and Nicole (friend Zach) Huntington both of Des Moines and Kaeleigh Ballentine and Kanyon Huntington both of Afton, Kimberly (husband Matt) Kouri of Council Bluffs, Ia., Rod (wife Rosalyn) Weis of Batavia, Ill. Darren (wife Marcia) Weis of Council Bluffs, Ia; 13 great-grandchildren, Grady, Mason, Dominic, Bailey, Alex, Andersen, Augustas, Taylor (wife Margaret), Nicholas, Mallory, Raquel, Rosalyn, Rebecca, Jeff and Jessica (husband Sam); great-great-grandson Gabriel and host of friends and other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lee (wife Esther) Peak, husband Charles Huntington and her sister Lucille (husband Lester) Rundlett.
