Paul Harvey Rudd, 89, of rural Keokuk, died at 5:19 PM, Friday, December 1, 2006, at Keokuk Area Hospital. Mr. Rudd was born October 1, 1917 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Amelia Rudd. He married Erma Ricker on July 21, 1946 at the Hannibal-LaGrange College Chapel in Hannibal, Missouri. He moved to Keokuk at the age of four and lived there before entering the service and returned after his retirement. He served in the United States Air Force for 30 years and retired in 1972 as Master Sergeant. During his time in the Air Force he was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and fought in World War II; served in Korea; and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. He is survived by his wife, Erma; three children, Carl Rudd and his wife, Betty, of Naperville, Illinois, Linda Smeltser and her husband, Ed, of Alexandria, Missouri and Allen Rudd and his wife, Robyn, of Union, Missouri; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Rudd and his wife, Anne, of Warren-Robins, Georgia and Donald Rudd and his wife, Rita, of Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Marcella Jaffe of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law...[more]

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Rev. John Abraham officiating. Burial with military rites was in Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sandusky United Methodist Church.
