Della T. Vaage

FOREST CITY -- Della T. Vaage, age 98 of Forest City, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile, Iowa with Lay Pastor David Halverson and Pastor Robert Vaage officiating. Burial will be at Brush Point Cemetery in rural Fertile, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Monday, May 21 at the funeral home and an hour prior to service at the church. Della T. Vaage was born on October 6, 1908, on a farm in Hardin County, Iowa, north of McCallsburg, the daughter of Thomas and Dorthea (Tveit) Chentland. She received her education in rural school near her home. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on November 4, 1923 at Zion Lutheran Church near Garden City, Iowa. On December 21, 1929, Della was united in marriage to Carl Vaage in Randall, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Forest City and Fertile areas. Della was a busy mother and farmer's wife. She managed a large chicken business, using egg money to buy school supplies for the kids. She raised a big garden and canned produce and meat. d care for family and friends. Her children remember that she made the best bread in north Iowa. Carl and Della moved to Forest City in 1967. She enjoyed working at the Good Samaritan Center. She refinished furniture and enjoyed doing light carpentry work. She was a member of Fertile Lutheran Church and active in Ladies Aid there for many years. Della entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in June of 1999. Della went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the age of 98 years. Della is survived by her children: LaVern Vaage (Karen) of Mason City, IA; Donna Nelson (Larry) of Hanlontown, IA; Larry Vaage (Shirley) of Forest City. Grandchildren include: Diana Horn (Robb); Susan Feight; Mark Vaage (Jan); Sandra Sharp (Gary); Douglas Vaage; Robert C. Vaage (DeeAnn); Jeff Vaage (Beth); Laura Shropshire; Marie Webb (Hugh); Christine Nelson (Ned Fagg); Cheryl Kapka (David); Lonny Nelson (Myrtle); Allison Feldhacker (Chris). Also, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Betty Vaage of Mason City, sister-in-law Dena Rollefson of Forest City Della was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl in 1987, a son Duane in 1979, five sisters and three brothers.
