Lawrence Sherrill

Lawrence E. Sherrill Sr., 76, of Keokuk, died at 3:50 PM Saturday, August 18, 2007, at Keokuk Area Hospital. Mr. Sherrill was born March 19, 1931 in Warsaw, Illinois the son of Gladys Bloyd. He married Mary Jo Henley on September 24, 1951 in Warsaw, Illinois. She survives. He was a truck driver for Vermillion Brothers and Swift & Co. and Donald Holland Trucking. He was a member of the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa. He was a wood worker and a CB'er using the handle "Walleye". He enjoyed fishing and working in his garden which was his pride and joy. He was raised by his grandparents, Frank & Mary Sherrill. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Sherrill of Keokuk; nine children, Linda Nihiser of Blue Mound, Illinois, Judy Lash and her husband, Lloyd, of Clinton, Illinois, Betty Sherrill of Keokuk, Larry Sherrill, Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Keokuk, Terri Schaefer and her husband, Peter, of Washington, Iowa, Doug Sherrill and his wife, Susie, of Keokuk, Mike Sherrill of Keokuk, Diana Richardson of Newton, Iowa and Steve Cramer of Keokuk, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Shephard and his wife, Barbar...[more]

of Fairfield, California, Burton Shephard and his wife, Marie, of Dwight, Kansas and Leroy Shephard and his wife, Jan, of Keokuk, Iowa; one sister, Barbara Curtis and her husband, Delmar, of Kahoka, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Eugene Sherrill in infancy; his grandparents; his mother, Gladys Bloyd; his stepfather, Lloyd Shephard; and four siblings. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at DeJong's Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Brown and Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial followed at Sand Cemetery at St. Francisville, Missouri. Memorials may be made to Mary Jo Sherrill.
