Tanzania.
In the first years, she did some of the construction work herself, carrying concrete, building walls and putting roofs on various schools. Her greatest legacy is in the complete school she built in a Maasai village in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro, which began construction in 2013. Today, the Orkung'uu Primary School stands as a testament to Shirley's commitment to the people she determined to serve. Four classroom buildings, two teacher's houses, five latrines and a water well serve the children and families of the region. In all, over 75,000 children in the various schools and orphanages were touched by Shirley's work in Tanzania.
Shirley also volunteered at the Union Colony Theatre, served on the board of the Credit Union of Colorado, and was a member of the Colorado State Patrol Alumni Association. She was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church (now Cornerstone Community Church) all her life.
Shirley is survived by her sisters Helen and Frances and brothers Colin, George and Jim and dozens of nieces and nephews for whom "Aunt Shirley" will always remain an important part of their lives.
Services for Shirley will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, December 18, 2017 at Cornerstone Community Church. Inurnment at Linn Grove Cemetery.
