Anthony "Tony" Caligiuri Sr. passed away peacefully on December 14, 2017. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday evening, December 17 at Iles Dunn's Chapel concluding with a 7 p.m. vigil service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.Monday, December 18 with interment following at Glendale Cemetery. Tony was born to Dominic and Rosa (Murano) Caligiuri on July 16, 1933. A life long resident of the south side, Tony was well known in Des Moines' tight knit Italian community. A true icon of old school "brick and mortar" he was very active in Des Moines construction circles first as a partner with his brothers and father in Goodwin Tile and Brick from 1951-1979 and most recently as the founder of Cal Concrete Construction. A member of St. Anthony's parish for more than 80 years, he was the first baby to be baptized in the current church building. He was proud of his Italian heritage, fluent in Italian and loved visiting with his friends. He was an amateur chef and renowned for his cooking talents. nting trips to South Dakota and Canada and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley, in 1976 and second wife, Diane, in 2015; son, Perry J. Caligiuri in 2004; daughter, Alane Johnson in 2005; and his parents and siblings. He is survived by sons, Tony Jr. (Ginny) of Osceola, Patrick (Brenda) and Charles (Joslyn) both of Des Moines and daughters, Robin (Tim) Pettus of Des Moines, Kristin Day (Tom) and Ellen Fulcher (Trent) both of Ankeny along with 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and his best friend of 79 years, Bobby Marasco.
