Albert Gerney Burgess, 90, of Keokuk, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at his home. Born May 5, 1919, in Humboldt, Neb., he was the son of Amos G. and Anna Ada Mortimer Burgess. He married Dolly Rickets. They divorced. Mr. Burgess worked in production at Keokuk Steel Castings in Keokuk. He served as president of Keokuk Steel Castings Union for 27 years, and retired in the late 1970s. He farmed after retirement. He played guitar and drums and was the leader of the country band "Country Gentlemen". He was of the Protestant faith. He enjoyed fishing and sports, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Survivors include his ex-wife of Keokuk; four sons, Gary Burgess of Carthage, Ill., Morris Ricketts and Glenn Spraggins of Keokuk and Merven Burgess of Payson, Ill.; four daughters, Alberta Thompson of Fort Madison, Linda Hall and Debbie Jefferson of Keokuk and Elizabeth Collins of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Elmer Burgess of Keokuk; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. ongs Funeral Home in Keokuk with the Rev. Bill Willis will officiate. The body will be cremated following the funeral. The staff of Prugh Funeral Service in Burlington will assist. A memorial has been established.
