Tillson - Benno (Ben) Sprenger, 85, of Tillson died Tuesday December 19, 2017 at his home. He was born in Bremen, Germany on June 9, 1932 a son of the late Gunther and Erna Bachmann Sprenger. His mother died when he was 7 and that shaped his life. He started boxing and was willing to fight anyone at anytime for any reason. Cancer was the only opponent he could not beat, but he went out fighting. He was tough and worked hard his entire life, his last work day was in October 2017. He joined the Merchant Marines as a young man, immigrated to the United States in the early 1950's, married in 1953, and began a landscape business in 1960 with his son joining him in 1988. He was self employed for 57 years. Ben will be remembered for his repetitive long stories, his love of German music, dancing, and beer and Jagermeister (for medicinal purpose only), his love of animals, and his passion for collecting and saving everything. A Service to Celebrate his life will be held 2 PM Thursday January 28, 2017 at the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale. Rev. Arlene Dawber will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday 12 noon to 2 PM prior to the service. The family suggest memorial donations to the Ulster County SPCA, 20 Wiedy Road, Kingston, NY 12401.
