Irene V. Martinez, 65, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 23, 2017, with her family at her bedside while admitted at Knapp Medical Center. Upon being diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the Liver followed by Chronic Kidney Disease, she courageously fought with the daily determination to continue to live life to its fullest. Irene was born in Weslaco, Texas, on March 20, 1952, to the late Roberto Valdez and the late Margarita Ibarra Valdez. She is survived by her sons, Sergio Alberto (Monica) Martinez and Mario Noe (Michelle) Martinez; her daughter, Lorena Yvette (Javier) Vargas; six forever loves (grandchildren), Sergio Sebastian Martinez, Andres Alberto Martinez, Marco Mateo Martinez, Mario Adan Martinez, Mallory Nicole Vargas, and Matthew Javier Vargas; her brothers, Ramiro (Rosie) Valdez and Rene (Karla) Valdez; her sisters, Josefina (Rogelio) Gonzalez, Irma (Gonzalo) Guajardo, and Diana (Jacinto) Duenes; also surviving her are numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces. e married the Air Force soldier of her dreams, Sergio, and they both began a life together that would last 35 years. Throughout this time, she always sought to be the partner that her husband needed to provide for the everyday needs of their growing family. She began her employment career with the Rio Grande Valley Gas Company in Weslaco. This was followed with positions at Magic Valley Electric Coop. in Mercedes, Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Knapp-Sherrill Canning Company in Donna, J&E Oil Company in Elsa, and finally with Donna ISD. Visitation will begin at Guerra Funeral Home-Chapel of the Angels in Weslaco on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. through Thursday, December 28, 2017, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Chapel service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Elias Treviño. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Pallbearers will be Sergio A. Martinez, Mario N. Martinez, Javier Vargas, Ramiro Valdez, Mario A. Rodriguez, and Abel Rivera.
