Jeffrey "Biff" Kent Hanan, 57, of Keokuk, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Unity Point Health Care - Keokuk. He was born on November 1, 1960 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Kent Hanan and Carolyn Peterson Hanan Johnson. He was united in marriage to Mary Susan Goetz Jackson on October 24, 1998. She survives. In addition to his wife Mary "Susan" of Keokuk, he is survived by his parents: Carolyn (Marc) Johnson of Keokuk, IA and Kent (Linda Figge) Hanan of Hamilton, IL; two step-sons: Daniel (Kristin) Jackson of Overland Park, KS and Joey Jackson of Brooklyn, NY; a brother: Dave (Tami Kraus Elder) Hanan of Keokuk, IA; two step brothers: Ian (Kris) Johnson and Justin (Trish Merydith) Johnson, all of Keokuk; a step-grandson: Liam Jackson; and two nieces and a nephew: Shelby, Katy, and Tucker Hanan. He is also survived by aunts and an uncle: Charles and Lois Payton and Janet VanDever, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Rudy & Dorothy Peterson and Hank & Marian Hanan; and his mother and father-in-law: William F. and E. Jean Goetz. s of 1979 and graduated from University of Iowa in 1984 with a BA in Journalism and BBA. He lived most of his life in Keokuk and was employed as Assistant Director of Southeastern Iowa Regional Planning Commission. He was previously employed as Sports Editor and Managing Editor for Daily Gate City and was the Community Development Director for the City of Keokuk. He was a member of All Saints Parish, Knights of Columbus, Keokuk/Burlington Rotary Club, Keokuk Yacht Club, and was active with Rollin' on the River. Jeff was an active volunteer for Keokuk sports for many years, including the official scorekeeper for boys' basketball, and ran the scoreboard for Keokuk football games. In addition, he and his father worked as statisticians for Keokuk football for numerous years and especially enjoyed the 2007 State Champion Team. Jeff was an avid photographer and worked for the Daily Gate City, shooting Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games. For the past 11 years, Jeff enjoyed fantastic Canadian fishing trips. He made many loving memories and created great stories throughout the years with his dad, brother - Dave, nephew - Tucker, and friends too many to count. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Church of All Saints, Keokuk with Father Wally Helms as celebrant. Family and friends will gather at the Knights of Columbus Hall following the mass. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 1212 Concert Street, Keokuk. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for City of Christmas or Keokuk High School Sports Boosters.
