Marlene M. Walker, 83, of Iowa City, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Atrium Village in Hills. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree with a 3:00 p.m. prayer. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Essences of Life Hospice or Atrium Village in memory of Marlene. Marlene Marie Johnson was born on August 8, 1934, in Lone Tree, Iowa the daughter of Edgar C. and Mildred E. (Flake) Johnson. Marlene was a 1952 graduate of Lone Tree High School. On June 5, 1955, Marlene was united in marriage to Don A. Walker in Lone Tree. She worked for Hand's Jewelry in Iowa City for 13 years, then Long Fellow Elementary for 5 years and then worked for Grant Wood Elementary for 23 years. Marlene enjoyed bowli...[more]
yed bowling, camping, basketball, wintering in Texas with her husband, making flowers out of ribbons, playing cribbage, cards and games with her grandchildren.
Marlene will be deeply missed by her husband, Don of Iowa City; son, Gary A. Walker and wife, Teresa of West Branch; two grandchildren, Curtis Alan Walker of West Branch and Cody Jesse Walker, currently deployed with the US Army; brother, James C. Johnson of Lone Tree; nephew, James K. (Fran) Johnson of Lone Tree; niece, Jamie S. (Tim) Lorack of Lone Tree and lifelong friend Janette Vincent of Conesville.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Alan Walker in infancy and sister-in-law, Carol Johnson.
