Jo-Ann was born November 25, 1925 to Mae (West) and David Nowling in Council Bluffs, IA where she was raise. She was the ninth of nine children.
During a visit to Davenport, IA she met Dale Maas on a blind date in February of 1949. They were married the follow July and celebrated 64 years of marriage. After marriage they moved to Davenport, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Jo-Ann worked throughout most of her life including a stint at the Bomber Plant in Omaha during WWII. Later, she worked at Servus Rubber Co. in the accounting department and retired from J.I. Case Company in 1983 after 19 years.
For 23 years Jo-Ann and Dale spent every February on the island of Maui, where they renewed their wedding vows on their 50th Anniversary having a large reception with their many Maui friends.
Jo-Ann was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She bowled on several bowling leagues and was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
Jo-Ann is survived by a son, Jeff (Dr. Fay) Maas; daughters, Leslie (Brad) Oates and Lori (Brian) Groves; grandchildren: Aaron (Maggie) Oates, Kelly (Ryan) Duffy, Ben Groves, Andy Groves and Jackie Groves and great grandchildren, Alexander and Annabelle Oates.
Jo-Ann was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.
