Lydia Guerra Mendoza, 92, a long-time resident of Donna, Texas entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. She was born on August 4, 1925 in Havana, Texas to her parents, Vidal and Concepcion Guerra. She worked for 30 years with Donna ISD, first as a paraprofessional and then 20 plus years as an elementary teacher. She was also a member of the Guadalupanas at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Donna. After retirement, she enjoyed family gatherings, line dancing, reading, doing crossword puzzles and traveling across the United States with her children.

Lydia is survived by a daughter, Irene Mendoza Morin of Mission, Texas, a son Juan Martin Mendoza (Elva) of Donna, Texas, three grandsons; Kenny Kleinsteuber, Alex Morin, Matthew Mendoza, one grand daughter; Andrea Mendoza, one great-grandson; Loucas Mendoza, two brothers; Dominic Guerra of Brownsville, Texas, Vidal Guerra of California; two sisters Janie Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, Mary Lou Guerra of Pharr, Texas; sister in law; Juanita Guerra of La Feria, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Donna, Texas. Internment will follow at the Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna, Texas.
The family of Mrs. Mendoza would like to thank Doctor's Renaisance Hospital, Amara Hospice, Step by Step Health Care and all their staff for their heart-felt care. A Special thanks goes to Doctor Benjamin Robalino, her cardiologist, for many years of professional care.
