Marilyn "Lyn" Zaccaro, 89, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Eagle Pointe Place in Dubuque after a long battle with cancer. Private memorial services are planned.
o, where she resided at Eagle Pointe Place. She is remembered by her family for her generosity which allowed her children and grandchildren to spend a week together every two years at Ocean Isle beach in North Carolina.
Marilyn was born Feb.15,1928, in Hartford, Conn., and was the daughter of Raymond and Faye Friel. She grew up in South Glastonbury, Conn., and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1949 where she met her husband, Dr. Luke N. Zaccaro. They married Sept. 3, 1949. In 1972, Marilyn and Luke moved to Canfield, Ohio, where Marilyn worked for the Ohio Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and Luke became chairman of the math department at Youngstown State University until his death on March 19, 1977.
Marilyn was a talented polka dancer, but she also could do a mean Polish hop and jitterbug. She also enjoyed playing bridge and bird watching and loved her property in Canfield, where she often boasted that she had eight types of fruits and vegetables. Marilyn is survived by her two sisters and her six children: Richard (Bonnie) of Portland, Maine, Edward (Sara) of Dubuque, Lawrence of Stonington, Conn., Nancy (Richard Marshall) of New Castle, Pa., Daniel (Elin) of Cary, N.C., and Michael (Kathleen) of Denver, CO. Marilyn also had 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Grandchildren from Dubuque include Luke (Laura) Zaccaro of Forest Lake, Minnesota; Rachel Zaccaro of Seattle, Washington; and Daniel (Alicia) Zaccaro of Dubuque.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on behalf of Marilyn to Hospice of Dubuque.
