Alvie Thomas "Bill" Land Jr. 82, of the Illinois Veterans' Home passed away at 2:43 AM Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the home. Alvie was born May 7, 1935 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Alvie Thomas "Dude" and Margaret Boyd Land. He lived in the Keokuk and Basco area and had done welding, fabricating, concrete work and was a machine operator. He served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He attended First Baptist Church in Carthage. He was a jack of all trades and could work on and operate any kind of machinery. He had owned a concrete company in the tristate area. He rode motorcycles and collected unique items. He did it all! He is survived by four children, Rick (Becky) Land of Keokuk, Iowa, Kenny (Teta) Land of Keokuk, Cathie (Jim) Cota of Phealan, California, and Stacie (Robert) Haynes of Denmark, Iowa; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; a brother Richard Land of Phoenix, Arizona; and a sister, Margaret Linderman of Salt Lake City, Utah; and nieces, nephews and cousins. be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street in Keokuk with Pastor Michelle Henze officiating. Inurnment with military rites will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 Monday evening, January 15, at the funeral home.
