Arthur Odgaard was born February 22, 1915, on a farm in Humboldt County near Livermore, the son of Christian and Petra (Jensen) Odgaard. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1934, and began working in Humboldt before moving to California in 1940. In 1941, Art enlisted in the United States Air Corps and was stationed in Georgia, Ohio, Arkansas and in the South Pacific, returning to the states from Japan in 1945. Art served in the armed forces with four of his brothers during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge Art returned to Des Moines where he attended the American Institute of Business. On July 28, 1951, Art was united in marriage to Helen Pink in Algona, Iowa. After their marriage they settled in Algona, where Art worked as a bookkeeper at Bradley Implement and Truck Services until his retirement in 1979. They would have celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage in August of 2011. He enjoyed reading, especially biographies and history and was fascinated by coins and had a collection that consumed many happy hours. Surviving are his wife, Helen of Algona; sisters-in-law, Verdel Odgaard of Ankeny; Lois Odgaard of Plano, TX; Ruth Odgaard of Valley Center, CA; Vivian Betels of Estherville; brother-in-law, David Pink and wife, Barbara of The Dalles, OR; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Katherine Schultz, Nona Have, Palma Winters, Jens, Mansa, Edwin who was killed at Pearl Harbor, Fred, Roy, Elmer and two infant sisters, Adela and Mary Lou. He leaves them all reluctantly!
