Mary Jo Mullen

Mary Jo Mullen, 66, of Toledo, IA, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Celebration of Life Service will be 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Evangelical Free Church, 3111 S. 6th Street, Marshalltown, IA. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com. Mary Jo was born July 9, 1948 in Cherokee, IA to Arthur and Pearl (Nelson) Allen. She graduated from Yale-Jamaica-Bagley High School and then received her bachelors degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. Mary Jo was united in marriage on January 25, 1970 to Robert Bob Mullen in Bradgate, IA. She worked as an educator at many different schools, including: South Page, La Porte City, Chelsea and South Tama, retiring from there in 2003. Mary Jos faith was very important to her, she was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Marshalltown. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends, reading, especially to her granddaughters and loved visiting Okoboji. She faithfully served many years at the House of Compassion. Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Bob Mullen, two sons, Travis (Hannah) Mullen of Toledo, and Eli Mullen of Chelsea, IA; two granddaughters, Gloria and Silvia Mullen of Toledo, one brother, Jack (Mary) Allen of Waverly, IA and numerous other family members. She is preceded in death by her parents.
