Ben Juchems, 90, of Conrad passed away Friday, October 24, 2014, at his residence in Oak Estates. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at the Union Community Church in Union, IA. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2014, at the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Interment will be in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora, IA with the committal service by the Montaque Lodge #117 of Eldora. A memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com Ben was born September 6, 1924, in Steamboat Rock, the son of Cornelius and Amke (Rotgers) Juchems. He married the love of his life, Betty McBride on June 1, 1952, in Hubbard. Ben farmed near Eldora until 1960 when he moved to a farm in Grundy County. Farming was Bens lifelong passion. He raised his family and was involved in the community for more than 50 years. He belonged to the Masons, O.E.S., involved with the Lions Club, Farm Bureau, and a very active member of the Kiwanis. Ben is survived by three sons, David (Janice) of Conrad; Rick (Jane) of Plainfield; Alex (Sue) of Auburn, WA; two daughters, Becky Wiebensohn of West Des Moines and Marla (Jeffrey) Bailey of Tryon, NC; two sisters, Florence Burns of Steamboat Rock and Jan Allen of Sioux Falls, SD; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, wife, brother Jay, and son-in-law Rick Wiebensohn The family would like to thank the staff of Oak Estates and Hospice Compassus for the compassion and care provided to Ben during his last days.
