Lorraine Gervich, 94, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Sunday at the Iowa River Hospice Home, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Home, 405 West Main St., Marshalltown. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, in Marshalltown Lorraine Ruth Gervich was born Nov. 13, 1922 in St Louis, Mo. to Louis and Betty Greenberg. She grew up in Alton, IL, Fort Dodge and Iowa City graduating high school in 1941 from University High School, Iowa City. She attended the State University of Iowa before marrying Sam Gervich on Aug. 2, 1942. They lived in Charleston, SC for much of World War II while Sam was stationed at the Army Port of Embarkation. During those years, Lorraine worked at the base for the Quartermaster Corps. Lorraine and Sam moved to Marshalltown in 1946 when Sam joined his father, Morris, in business at M. Gervich & Sons, Inc. Lorraine was active in Hadassah and the Sisterhood of Sons of Israel Synagogue. She was a Gray Lady with the Marshalltown chapter of the American Red Cross, and was a member of the American Civil Liberties Union and Southern Poverty Law Center. ine was real estate broker with the Bob Press Agency and later with Levings-Proborsky Real Estate. Lorraine and Sam made numerous trips to the southwest and gulf coast and spent many winters in Scottsdale, AZ. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, jazz music and playing golf together. She was also active in Marshalltown Community Theatre. Lorraine adored her family. Her cooking and baking were legendary. She was an avid reader and had a talent for making her orchids rebloom. Even in her 90's, she kept up with technology. She made sure she had her laptop at hospice. Lorraine is survived by her children: David (Sue), Iowa Falls; Daniel (Eve), West Des Moines; Douglas (Margaret), Marshalltown and Diane (Jerry) Kimbrough, Nashville, TN; 12 grandchildren: Chad (Kelly), Curt, (Amy), Eli (Sti), Asa, Jesse, Jacob, Samantha (Nate) Kaeding, Molly (Kendall) Dammeier, John, Aaron, Julia and Zoe; 11 great-grandchildren and a brother, Jack (Carole) Greenberg, Dallas, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, and her parents. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice and the Martha Ellen Tye Playhouse.
