Dennis "Harry" J. Bauer, 65, of Dubuque, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Holy Spirit Parish- Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Family will greet friends 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, January 15, 2018 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque with a Scripture Service. Burial with Military Honors will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Dennis was born December 19, 1952 in Dubuque, the son of LaVerne and Mary (Melloy) Bauer. He married Julia Neyen on July 16, 1983 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Dennis attended Senior High School and then transferred to Hempstead following the completion of the new school. He then served in the US Army from 1971-1973. Dennis worked for Giese Roofing and Barnstead Thermolyne (Thermo Fischer Scientific). y and friends, outdoors, fishing, camping, and boating. Dennis's love and passion was his grandchildren. Dennis was truly a loyal loving husband, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and a true friend to many.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Julia; four children, Sadie (Jeff) Fick of Mason City, Jodie (Daniel) Krier of Dubuque, Troy (Jessica) Bauer of Dubuque, and Katlyn (Cody) Peacock of Sherrill; grandchildren, Delia and Brenna Fick, Olivia, Natalie, and Christian Krier, Kylie Bauer, and Jazlynn and Jace Peacock; his mother-in-law, Donna (Allen Schubert) Neyen-Shea of Dubuque; siblings, Donna (Mike) Dillion, Bob Bauer, Lois (Al) Lumley, and Barbara (Ron) Weidenbacher, all of Dubuque and Lois (Craig) Newholm of Marion, Iowa; his in-laws, William (Kelly) Neyen Jr., James (Kris) Neyen, Jolene (Doug) Osterberger; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Rick Bauer and Danny Bauer; his father-in-law William Neyen Sr.; and his sister-in-law, Christina Bauer.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Dennis's memory.
