itary service in 1979 and settled in Greeley. He pursued many interests after retirement: working at the local newspaper, substitute teaching at various district schools, and delivering cars for local dealerships. He remained an avid fisherman and skier. He wrote and shared poetry. Most important was his abiding faith in God, coupled with stewardship and service within his church family. Richard facilitated Bible study groups, participated in Gideon's Bible placement programs, coordinated worship services at Birchwood Apartments, and lead Bible studies for inmates at the local jail. He organized and led wilderness camping trips with local youth, participated in Angel Tree Christmas gift distribution programs, and offered his assistance and advice tirelessly upon request.
Richard's contributions to his family, friends, church family and community are significant and largely unheralded, as he would have liked. Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Richard is survived by his wife, Amy; their two sons Alan Ness of Cheyenne, WY and Bryan Ness of Greeley; grandchildren: Bethany Willmarth (Aaron Willmarth) of Cheyenne; Jordan Ness of Cheyenne; Kyle Ness of Kansas City, MO; Jessica Ness of Santa Cruz, CA; Emily and Avery Ness of Mammoth Lakes, CA; two great-grandchildren: Presley and Cameryn Willmarth of Cheyenne.
