Dr. Martin Martinus, age 98, of West Olive went to be with his Savior and friend, Jesus, on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center. He was born to the late William and Anna (Dykstra) Martinus on August 30, 1919 in Holland, Michigan. Martin married Irene VanAppledorn, on May 29, 1943; she preceded him in death on May 31, 2012. Martin graduated from Holland Christian High School, Calvin College and the University of Michigan Medical School. He practiced as a general surgeon at Butterworth Hospital and was the Medical Director at Kent Community Hospital. He also served on the board of Bethany Christian Service and Seymour Christian School. Martin was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven and a past deacon and elder at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. He was a wonderful, dad, grandfather, and "Bops" to his great-grandchildren. He will be missed. We look forward to being with him again. God is good. Martin is survived by his loving children; M. He was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Allison DeJongh, who passed away in 2011. The service for Martin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 27, 2018 at Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven with Pastors Christopher DeGraaf and Laura de Jong officiating. Interment will be at Pilgrim Home in Holland. Family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to and after the service at the luncheon. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the V.F.W.
