Glen B. Huey, son of Isles K. and Bessie I. (Gapen) Huey, was born on October 13, 1924, in White River, South Dakota. Glen was drafted into the United States Army in 1944, and served until 1946; he was stationed in the Philippines. During his time in the service, Velma Rose Hiatt, a fellow Sunday School class member, occasionally sent Glen some of her Aunt Clara's homemade divinity. After his discharge, Glen returned to the family farm, and he and Velma began dating. They were married on February 14, 1948, and were forever valentines, celebrating more than 65 years of marriage.
Glen and Velma farmed northeast of Irwin, growing corn and soybeans, raising cattle, hogs, and chickens, and milking 20-24 cows. They continued farming until 1974, when they moved into Irwin. After their move into town, Glen continued to custom combine for many years.
