and on July 7, 1943, they were united in marriage by the navy chaplain. They were in Chicago for a short period of time and moved to Seattle, WA until Dick went off to fight the war in the Philippines. Jorine moved back to Iowa for the duration of the war and gave birth to their first son while Dick was at war. When the war was over they moved to Ames and added two children to their family. Then it was off to Decorah where Jorine took up golf, bridge and became actively involved in her Catholic Church community. While in Decorah, Jorine gave birth to 5 more children and when the opportunity arose to experience life in another country, she moved her family to Sao Paulo, Brazil for two years, and then back to Decorah for one year. Eventually she would make Algona her home, returning to Algona again after a two year stay in Santo Domingo. Once her children were raised Jorine was able to accomplish her lifelong goal of continuing education. She attended a group counseling school in Prescott, Wisconsin and moved to Angola, Indiana to work at the Cameron Treatment Center. She retired and moved back to Algona where she became involved with Elderbridge, empowering older Iowans and adults with disabilities to live with dignity and independence. She felt strongly about the Elderbridge mission and worked with legislators to encourage legislation benefiting older Iowans. Until her health declined Jorine was an avid golfer and enjoyed family and social gatherings particularly when dancing was on the agenda. She loved travelling, visiting family, and her friends enjoyed her spunky attitude.
