Ermellina (Lina) Marianna Brocchetti, 74, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her devoted husband and loving family, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born in the small village of Cavrasto, Italy, on September 28th, 1943 to Francesco and Olivia Brocchetti, Lina was the third of four girls. She was raised and educated in the city of Milano, and soon after began working in the city's premier banking institution. In 1964, Lina met Santo (Sandy) Brocchetti and after a brief courtship, Lina left Italy for America where she and Sandy were married on January 2nd, 1965.
Together they raised their two children, Susan and Mark, and owned and operated their small family business, Del's Dairy Creme in Rhinebeck, N.Y. The pride and joy Lina and Sandy put into their work at Del's was always apparent. Lina cooked the delicious food they served and Sandy served the customers, greeting most by name. iendships during the 15 years they operated Del's.
During the winter seasons, Lina returned to school, and earned her certificate in bookkeeping. In 1989 she accepted a position as bookkeeper for the Kingston Library. She enjoyed her work at the library and retired when she felt the need to spend more time with her family and travel to her native Italy.
Lina loved having family and friends around her, and her special loves were her four grandchildren.
In 2015, Sandy and Lina celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and family and friends beside them.
Lina will be missed by everyone who knew her, and she will always be remembered for her overall bright and generous spirit. Lina loved cooking her delicious Italian food for family gatherings and parties and she and Sandy enjoyed dancing and socializing with friends. Sandy and Lina traveled to their native Italy as often as they could, many times accompanied by at least one of their grandchildren or other family. Lina is also remembered for the talent she displayed in knitting and crocheting, shown in the beautiful sweaters she made for her children and grandchildren.
Lina is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Sandy; her daughter, Susan (Stephen) Marnell; her son, Mark (Tonya) Brocchetti; her grandchildren, Lucas, Stephen, Michaela, and Francesco; her sisters Marisa and Giuseppina of Italy. Lina is predeceased by her parents, sister, Elena, and daughter Marina (at birth).
