helped Joe create a great wooden car for the pinewood derby race in Cub Scouts and helped oversee the design and building of Connie's home. He was also a frequent volunteer at church and at the local YMCA. Having lived in the same house for 46 years, they were also very active in the neighborhood association of College Commons. When Maynard became a grandfather, he continued to invest in the lives of his grandchildren. He encouraged each grandchild in their areas of interest, whether it was art, synchronized swimming, baseball, or reading books. He was honored to have two granddaughters become valedictorians of their high school classes. He was further blessed by the addition of three great-grandsons who lived in California. A real joy when they were in town, he also enjoyed watching them in videos on his daughter's phone. Maynard and Janet loved to travel by car with loosely planned itineraries. They liked to "go off the beaten path" and explore unknown territory. This lead to one occasion, in the early 70's, where they found themselves unwanted on an Indian reservation! Because mom never met a stranger, they often had lasting friendships with people they met while waiting for a tour to start. Knowing that prayer and studying God's Word was important, he and Janet spent their lifetime involved in church activities. Maynard married Janet in Union Chapel United Methodist Church in 1956 and they returned there in their "golden years." Beginning in the 1970's and through early the 2000's, they attended Hope Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, growing in their walk with the Lord and building lasting friendships. Maynard never lost his sense of humor, his quiet manner and his patient disposition. He was often described as "such a gentleman." He never complained, even in his last days. He tried to live the life he had been taught through studying the Bible. He has now joined with his friends and loved ones in the arms of his beloved Savior, Jesus Christ. Maynard is survived by his daughter, Connie Meyer (Ralph) and son, Joseph Cox (Dana); grandchildren, Sarah Meyer, Karen Halm (Greg), Jonathan Meyer (Hayley), Alyssa Cox and Adam Cox; and three great-grandsons, Hudson, Logan, and Ethan Halm. His wife, Janet Cox, preceded him in death.
