Funeral services for Miss Lyda Speck, age 100, of Livingston will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday November 19, 2014 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston with Steve Parris, & J. David Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens in Livingston, with Military Honors by the James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062 of Livingston. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Miss Lyda passed away November 17, 2014 at the Livingston Regional Hospital. She was born March 27, 1914 in Overton County to the late Floyd M. & Narcis Allred Speck. She was a retired Rural Mail Carrier. She served her country proud in the Army working in research and development on the Manhattan Project, that produced the first atomic bombs during WWII. Miss Lyda was a member & Past Worthy Matron of the Livingston Eastern Star 206, member of the Home Dim Club & Book Club in Livingston, and the WMU at First Baptist Church. with the Thursdays' Bridge Club. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Livingston since 1927. She is survived by her nephews, Bill Speck & wife Matilda of Livingston, Tn., Mike Parris & wife Donna of Columbia, Tn., & Steve Parris & wife Kerrin of Hurst, TX.; great nieces, Lesa Parsons & husband David of Livingston, Tn., Joy Beasley & husband Jerry of Ooltewah, Tn., Anita Speck of Putnam, CT., Katie Coleman & husband James of Austin, TX.; great nephews, Ira Sidwell & wife Susan of Nashville, Tn., & Joe Parris of Las Colinas, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Pauline "Polly" Parris; brothers, Ira M. Speck, & Ray B. Speck; & neice, Joan Speck Brown. Honorary Pallbearers to serve will be the American Legion & VFW of Livingston. Pallbearers to serve are Jim Means, Max Crabtree, Ray Upchurch, William C. Carmack, Marty Maynord, & John R. Officer.
