Funeral services for Mr. J. Bruce Barnes, age 89, of Allons will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2015 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston with Rev. Damon Corley officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in Allons where there will be a military service provided by the Honor Guard from the James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062 of the VFW in Livingston. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. Mr. Barnes passed from this life on Wednesday morning, October 21, 2015, at his home, with his loving wife & girls at his side. He was born September 23, 1926 in the Freedonia Community of Overton County to the late Quitman and Cora Ledbetter Barnes. He was a residential and commercial carpenter. He was a 1945 graduate of Livingston Academy. He was a member of the Fredonia Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. Following the war he came home to marry the love of his life, Miss Orvie Ruth Little. They married in Roswell Georgia on April 22, 1948. He also held an Auto Diesel Degree. he was known for besides being a great carpenter was tending to honeybees, he loved his honeybees. At one time in his life he had over 50 honeybee hives that produced award wining honey. He was a devoted husband, father & friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Orvie Ruth Barnes; daughters, Brenda Copeland & husband, Jerry of Lebanon and Carol Ann Wells & husband, Gary of Brandon, MS; granddaughter, Leslee Stewart & husband, Justin of Lexington, KY; great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn Stewart; sister, Alva Dean McDonald of Livingston; and a sister-in-law, Sadie Maynord of Allons. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother: Aldon H. Barnes, sisters: Gearldean Barnes and Geneva Barnes Peterman, 3 grandsons: Chad Henry Wells, Scott Eugene Wells, and Jeremy Bruce Wells, and a granddaughter: Sara Ann Wells.
