Wilma was born on April 16, 1924 in Illinois City, Illinois on the family farm to Rene and Helena Van Landegem Dekeyrel. She was educated in Illinois City.
She met her husband, Bert Etter, in Muscatine while he was home on leave from Italy during World War II. They were married at the St. Mary's Rectory in Muscatine on May 2, 1945.

homemaker. After her husband's death in 1965, she was employed as a cook and baker at West Junior High School. She retired from Thatcher Plastics at age 73 when the plant closed. In retirement she took care of great grandchildren.
She is survived by children, Helen (Larry) Vargus, TX; Florence Pedersen, Muscatine; and Jack (Marlene) Etter, Oskaloosa. Grandchildren are Melissa (Shon) Foster and Gregory (Amy) Vargus, OK; Heidi (Bob) Jones and Kris (Tim) Stalkfleet, Muscatine; Erik (Tiffany) Pedersen, Davenport; Jacob and Isaac Etter, IL. Surviving great grandchildren are Matthew, Zachary, Samantha and Alexander Foster; Gabrielle, Brady and William Vargus; Gavin, Morgan, Abigail and Arabella Jones; Marissa and Brendan Pedersen; Katrina (Tommy) Glos, Mallery Pedersen-Schell and Madeline Pedersen. She is also survived by one brother Paul (Veneta) Dekeyrel, Illinois City, and sister-in-law Lucille Dekeyrel, Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Nancy Marie, one great grandson, Joshua Jones; her parents, three brothers and five sisters.
