Mary Elizabeth Jakes was born June 4, 1932 to Judge and Cherry Townsend in Columbus Mississippi. Mary passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 1, 2018 surrounded by family.
Mary worked at Bromberg's Jeweler in Birmingham Alabama in the late 1950's to early 60's.Mary relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1966 and started a career at Anthony Hall Nursing home. She changed careers and began working The Indiana Convention Center in the early 1970's until retirement. Mary's church home was Eastern Star Church where she worshipped.
Mary loved to cook, shopping, going to church and spending time with family and friends. Mary was the mother or grandmother to everyone because of the love and directness that was immediately felt when meeting her. Mary was full of spunk and always had words of wisdom for everyone she talked to.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Judge and Cherry Townsend ; her brother Algie Townsend; her son Robert Lee Townsend and her aunt Dorothy Jimison.
