James D. Ottman, beloved father and longtime Antigo resident died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. He was 84 years old. He was born on May 11, 1926 in Antigo, a son of Leo and Amanda (Blake) Ottman. He married Evelyn Olson on January 6, 1948. She preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1988. He attended Antigo High School, served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 and was a Purple Heart Medal recipient. Mr. Ottman began his employment at his father's gas station, and after the World War II operated a crane on various construction projects, hence earning him the nickname Craney. His true love and the majority of his employment was driving semi. HE drove semi for C.B. Miller in Antigo. He also drove truck and worked in shipping and receiving for Miller Tire Co., retiring in 1988. He later drove for Dairyland Transport in Wisconsin Rapids for four years and owned Ottman's Transport for six years. He was awarded four state safety driving awards. He enjoyed bowling, playing darts, golf, softball, and cards, traveling, camping, shooting pool, hunting, snowmobiling and coin collecting. Survivors include two daughters: Karon Boehm, Sheboygan, Tina (David) Ottman-Boykin, Sheboygan; a son Jammie (Angela) Ottman, Mosinee; seven grandchildren Brian (Christina) DeHart, Justin Ottman, Olevia and Davina Boykin, Marty, Samantha and Nina Ottman; Great-Grandchildren Katie and Emma DeHart; a sister Amanda Lou (Don) Schumitsch, Stevens Point, a brother Otto (Beverly) Ottman, of Rhinelander. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son Michael Ottman, a daughter Sheila Ottman, a grandson Daniel DeHart, two sisters Norma Perkins and Carla McFarlane; three brothers Leo, George and Cletus Ottman. Services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Entombment will take place in Queen of Peace Mausoleum where Antigo Veterans will conduct military rites. A meal will follow at the VFW clubhouse. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the Bradley Funeral Home.
