drafted in the United States Army in March 1951 and served until he was honorably discharged in March 1953. He was stationed in Germany with the 28th Division, 728 Ordinance Maintenance Company. While stationed in Germany he placed first in the Eibse ski bob contest. In 1951 he graduated from the Army European Command Ordinance School and the Non-Commissioned Officers School earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Gene owned and operated Randall's Welding Shop in Lyons from 1948 to 1971. In 1971 he joined Carlon as a Master Welder, developing innovative techniques for use in mold building and repair. He was promoted to Supervisor of the Tool and Welding Department and retired from that position in 1983.
Gene was a over 50 year member of the Lyons Masonic Lodge #93, Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies (32nd Degree), KAABA Shrine, and the Clinton Hi-12 Club. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and was a member and past office of the U.S. Power Squadron. His love of gardening lead to his certification as an Iowa Master Gardner. He was a member of the Fulton Country Club and a former member of the Clinton Country Club. He was honored to go on the Honor Flight in the fall of 2012.
Gene is survived by his wife: Carol of Clinton, two daughters: Dr. Diane (Dr. Thomas) Andrews of Longwood, Florida, and Donna (Robert) Rasley of North Liberty, Iowa; four grandchildren: Sara (Dustin) Miller, Dr. Alicia (Scott) Myers, Christine (Jordan) Dodds, and Charles Andrews; three great-grandsons: Liam Miller and Keaton & Gavin Myers; and one nephew: Richard Ehredt of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Herbert Randall, his sister: Delores Ehredt and a great-granddaughter: Libby Miller.
