Joe was honored often for his service in the United States Military, however one of his fondest memories was being honored in Washington DC where World War II & Vietnam Veterans were honored for their service. Joseph was married to Linda Brown and soon after relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. Joe and Linda became members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful member of the Usher Board and Senior Ministries. He "loved" his pastor and church family and spoke of them to everyone he met. He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Linda of Indianapolis, Indiana, and stepson Jeremiah (Amanda) also of Indianapolis, Indiana. Four children; Phyllis Statham (Lamarshall) of Hazel Crest, IL; Charles Steven Benson; Tilanta Thompson of Chicago, IL and Darryl Benson of Dolton, IL., all from his previous marriage. He also leaves nine grandchildren and one great grandson. Additionally, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law also from his previous marriage. And ten brothers- in-laws, two sisters-in-law and their (spouses). Joe was a kind-hearted and generous person. He encountered many challenges and adversities, but he would not let that get him down. Joseph always looked to God to see him through. He was not one to worry about anything. Joseph loved people, and no one was a stranger to him. He thought the world of his children and grandchildren. Joseph loved cooking and could barbeque a pork shoulder like no other. He also enjoyed fishing and loved traveling, particularly road trips. Near and dear to his heart was his four-legged best friend Quinine. Joseph is also survived by a host of relative families and friends.He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered....
